Gubby Allen Tournament - U10s

Well done to the 8 boys who represented the club in the Gubby Allen tournament on b/h Monday. We played 4 matches, won 2 and lost 2 but this does not tell the whole story. With the tournament also featuring some very strong teams from Sheen Park, Teddington and Richmond (all of which provide players to the Middx county squad), our morning's exploits got us very respectfully into group 2 (of 3), playing Sunbury and Wycombe Hse in the afternoon. A win in the final match against Wycombe Hse would have secured a medal for the boys as, for the second time this year, we beat Sunbury very convincingly. However it was not to be and Wycombe Hse, batting sensibly by not throwing their wickets away, won the match.

There were some excellent performances with Oscar being the pick of the bowlers, Sam C taking some very well judged catches and everyone chipping in with solid 'run making' mixed in with some lusty boundary blows from Nicholas, Harrison and Finlay, ably supported by Sam D and Max; although if I'm fair we are still mssing out on lots of singles. Robert also did a tidy job behind the stumps. What was particularly pleasing is that we did not lose a single wicket, in any of the pairs, in the Sunbury match....if only this had been carried through to the Wycombe Hse contest.

My thanks to the 2 umpires, Nick and Steve, the 2 scorers, Alex (Nicholas's brother) and David (Robert's brother) and all the parents who showed great patience and support during what was a particularly long but nonetheless rewarding day.
